The Taming of the Shrew

Katherina Minola is known to be ill-tempered and wilful. On the other hand, her sister Bianca is an ingénue who has caught the eye of several eligible bachelors.

A young scholar named Lucentio falls in love with Bianca and learns that she would be permitted to marry only after her elder sister does. He and his fellow suitors enlist Petruchio of Verona to woo Katherina, which he succeeds at by matching her wit. However, once they are married, he begins to ‘tame’ her through small acts of everyday cruelty.

As the sisters enter conjugal life, The Taming of the Shrew raises the question: what manners maketh woman?
