Synopsis
Peter Pan (1911) tells the story of Wendy Darling and her brothers, Michael and John, who are whisked away to Neverland one night by a mysterious Peter Pan. A boy who refuses to grow up, Peter seeks to secure the children everlasting childhood, while the eldest Wendy tussles between the freedoms of Neverland and the responsibilities of growing up in her world. With a memorable cast of characters, like Captain Hook, Nana the Dog, the Lostboys and Tiger Lily of the indigenous Piccaninny Tribe, the novel draws older readers with its intense awareness of the loss of childhood and resultant grief and younger readers with its whimsy and adventure. Peter Pan remains one of the most enduring pieces of English literature, wherein the magic is inseparable from the sorrow that made it.
