A Letter to the Readers of The Breakaway Series
E. L. Massey, author of The Breakaway Series has something to say to her readers. Read on for more.

I’m delighted that Like Real People Do and Like You’ve Nothing Left to Prove are finding new readers through Pan Macmillan India!
I wrote Like Real People Do and Like You’ve Nothing Left to Prove nearly a decade ago in what was an exercise of extreme self-indulgence. I was a lonely queer grad student with a service dog who spent her weekends watching hockey games and her weekdays meeting with (often closeted) undergraduate athletes who saw the rainbow sticker on her office door as an invitation for safe conversation. We were all hoping for happy endings we feared might not exist. LRPD and LYNLTP were born from that hope.
LRPD and LYNLTP are 60% banter and 30% literary and fandom references held together with the plot equivalent of chewing gum (10%, if we’re being generous). These stories are a hug in written form for people who need an idealistic real-life-adjacent world in which diverse characters can overcome obstacles and celebrate their victories, where villains can be redeemed, found families always have each others backs, the right team wins, and everyone gets the happy ending they deserve.
Hopefully you feel as optimistic reading them as I did writing them.

Like Real People Do

After an antagonistic first meeting with Alex, Eli knows there’s no way they can ever be friends. But Alex makes Eli an unexpected offer: one date to prove there is more to him than it seems...
Like You've Nothing Left to Prove
by E. L. Massey
Like You’ve Nothing Left to Prove is the cozy follow up to the first book and features Eli and Alex as they figure out dating in secret. Just as Alex’s team is close to winning the championship, a fan threatens to out them in a moment of crisis. It’s a look into how difficult it can be to come out, especially in a less-than-accepting field.
