The Aeneid

Synopsis

The Aeneid tells the story of Aeneas, a Trojan soldier and son of the goddess Venus, who makes a similar journey as Odysseus, to Italy, where his descendants would eventually found Rome.

Following in the footsteps of Homer, Virgil brings the grandeur of Greek epic to Rome, making the poetry synonymous with Roman literature. As one of the most influential works in Western literature, its legacy would reflect, centuries later, in Dante’s the Divine Comedy, wherein in Virgil guides Dante the Pilgrim through the depths of Hell and the Underworld with his wisdom.
