The Metamorphosis

With classic ‘Kafkaesque’ absurdism, Metamorphosis tells the story of a man who wakes up one morning in the body of an insectile creature. As a travelling salesman, Gregor Samsa’s itinerant lifestyle keeps him at a distance from his family, though he is their sole breadwinner. Once Gregor is transformed – rendering him unable to work or communicate – these rifts widen further. Useless to his colleagues and repulsive to his family, Gregor descends into total isolation. Carrying echoes from Kafka’s life – including the repressive father – Metamorphosis is a harrowing, darkly humorous depiction of alienation.
