Sons and Lovers

A young man of artistic sensibilities, Paul Morel, struggles to forge an identity and sustain relationships outside the suffocating emotional orbit of his mother.

Quasi-autobiographical, Sons and Lovers draws from Lawrence’s own upbringing in the coal-mining field of Nottinghamshire and his intense, consuming relationship with his mother Lydia, whose death he had barely processed by the time he wrote this novel.
